Opening Minds

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe aim of an Opening Minds curriculum is to develop an approach which enables students to become responsible adults, active citizens, inquisitive lifelong learners and competent skilled employees.

RSA Opening Minds promotes innovative and integrated ways of thinking about education. Teachers design a curriculum based round the development of five key competences or skills (CLIPS):

  1. Citizenship
  2. Learning
  3. Managing Information
  4. Relating to People
  5. Managing Situations

A competence based approach allows students to not only acquire subject knowledge but to understand, use and apply it within the context of their wider learning and life. It also offers students a more holistic way of learning which enables them to make connections and apply knowledge across different subject areas.

Opening Minds supports the statutory aims of the National Curriculum, allowing its content  to be delivered in a more creative and flexible way.
