Admissions

The Danesgate Community is a City wide provision for any York pupil who cannot attend a primary or secondary mainstream school due to social, emotional, behavioural or mental health needs. The Danesgate Community can admit any child and young person (aged 5-16) who has a York postcode regardless of which school they attend.

Referrals for admission to Danesgate would go from a referring school or partner agency (ie Health, Children’s Social Care, SEN Services) to the Local Authority Admissions team.

City of York Council has an online Parent Portal where applications can be made for ‘in-year’ applications for a change of schoolfree school meals and the pupil premium and applications to start primary, junior, or secondary school for the first time. The council also publishes admission policies.

Any parent or carer who would like advice on what support is available for their child should first talk to their current school. If further information is required then parents and carers can contact the Local Authority Admissions team or contact the Headteacher of The Danesgate Community on 01904 642611. Parents and carers who feel they need some additional support to find the right school provision for their child can also contact SENDIASS (formerly known as the Parent Partnership) via yorksendiass@york.gov.uk
